Chief Judge Melissa Gillespie has been recognized by the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch for her exceptional contributions to the legal community and the administration of justice in British Columbia. On May 9, 2026, she was awarded the CBABC President’s Medal. 

The award highlights Chief Judge Gillespie’s leadership of the BC Provincial Court’s commitment to innovation and change and her work to create a more responsive, accessible and inclusive Provincial Court. This work included rapidly adapting the Court to continue to serve the public during the COVID pandemic and fostering the virtual bail program and early resolution process for families.
