Doing your own legal research? There’s a website for that.

Are you planning to represent yourself in BC Provincial Court? Or do you just want to understand the law that applies to your case? You may find what you need on Clicklaw, a BC website offering trustworthy legal information.
Clicklaw is an online service of Courthouse Libraries BC (CLBC). CLBC also offers legal information for the public and provides legal resources for lawyers, through 30 courthouse libraries around the province.
What makes Clicklaw special is the expertise of CLBC’s law librarians, who select and organize the website’s content. They thoughtfully consider which resources would best help people with common legal problems and ensure those materials are up to date.
Clicklaw recently went through an overhaul to make it even more accessible, relevant and understandable for people (or their community helpers) looking for legal resources they can trust.
The new and improved Clicklaw focusses on helping people resolve their legal problems, understand legal issues and court procedures, and manage legal issues themselves if they can’t hire a lawyer or get Legal Aid.
The Clicklaw website is divided into 8 legal topics:
- Civil court and alternatives
- Crime and victims
- Employment
- Family
- Housing and tenancy
- Money, debt and consumer
- Rights and citizenship
- Will and estates and planning
In each topic, you choose from sub-topics to find answers to common legal questions, find more resources on the topic, or find legal service providers who may be able to help you.
If you haven’t had a chance to see Clicklaw’s modern new look, check it out and connect to resources to help with your legal questions!
