Chief Judge Melissa Gillespie has announced the appointment of 2 new judges and 2 new judicial justices.

It is my great pleasure and privilege to announce that the Lieutenant Governor in Council has signed Orders in Council appointing 2 judges and 2 judicial justices to the Provincial Court. The new judge appointments are Diba Majzub and Megan Olson. The new judicial justice appointments are Janine Main and Joanna Nefs.

Judge Majzub

Judge Majzub will be sworn in on November 24, 2025. He will be assigned to the Fraser region with chambers in Port Coquitlam.  Prior to his appointment, Judge Majzub worked as a federal prosecutor in Vancouver. He has been a practicing lawyer for 20 years. In the early part of his career, he worked at 222 Main Street, prosecuting federal drug offences. He then worked for two years at the United Nations Mission in Kosovo. In the last 15 years, he has focused his practice on extradition and mutual legal assistance cases. As a member of the Department of Justice’s Supreme Court of Canada practice group, his work has taken him to that court on many occasions. He has also attained an LLM from Columbia University, focusing on international criminal law issues.

Judge Olson

Judge Olson will be sworn in on November 24, 2025. She will be assigned to the Northern region with chambers in Smithers.  Judge Olson was called to the BC bar in 2008. She was the managing lawyer at the Parent’s Legal Centre in Smithers. From 2008 through 2013, she practised as criminal defence lawyer and she has related experience in indigenous law. She has also acted as Director’s counsel from time to time on an ad hoc basis. In 2017 she became an accredited family mediator.

Judicial Justice Main

Judicial Justice Main will be sworn in on November 25, 2025 and assigned to the Justice Centre and traffic.  Judicial Justice Main practiced in British Columbia since her call to the Bar in 2009. She articled at a criminal law firm, but transitioned to family law shortly thereafter. After approximately two years in that area of practice, she switched to personal injury law, where she worked exclusively as plaintiff’s counsel for eight years. She recently joined ICBC as in-house counsel.

Judicial Justice Nefs

Judicial Justice Nefs will be sworn in on November 25, 2025 and assigned to the Justice Centre and traffic.  Judicial Justice Nefs obtained her law degree from York University in 2011 and has been a member of the Law Society of Ontario since 2012. For the first several years of her legal career, she worked for the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General as a prosecutor, and as duty counsel for Legal Aid Ontario. Between 2018 and 2020, she was the Executive Director of the International Centre for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policy in Vancouver. Since August of 2020, she has worked as a Member and Alternate Chair for the British Columbia Review Board.
