Chief Judge Melissa Gillespie has announced the appointment of two new judges.

It is my great pleasure and privilege to announce that the Lieutenant Governor in Council has signed Orders in Council appointing two judges to the Provincial Court. The new judge appointments are Michael Lefebure and Christina Proteau.

Judge Lefebure will be sworn in on January 5, 2026. He will be assigned to the Fraser region with chambers in Chilliwack. Judge Lefebure worked as Crown counsel in the Special Prosecutions Unit. Called to the British Columbia bar in May 2012, he has worked both as Defence counsel and Crown counsel. He also worked and lived in the community of Chilliwack for several years at the beginning of his legal career.

Judge Proteau

Judge Proteau will be sworn in on January 5, 2026. She will be assigned to the Vancouver Island region with chambers in Nanaimo.  Judge Proteau served as the Administrative Crown in Port Alberni. Called to the BC bar in May 2009, she spent the bulk of her career working in criminal law. She obtained a position at the Crown office at Port Alberni in 2010.
